To the Residents of ELWCondo7,
As some of you may be aware, we had a pair of eagles living in the large electrical tower behind building 4 in ELW7 for many years. Unfortunately the male eagle along with the 2 eaglets have died due to poisoning . The female eagle was still alive a few days ago. The following is a post from Next Door which gives further explanation along with a helpful website on the effects of rat poison in the food web chain.
Thank you,
Board of Directors ELWCondo7

It was posted a few days ago that people were finding dead squirrels in East Lake Woodlands, near Condo Associations 5 and 6 area. It seems someone put out rodenticide to kill the squirrels and no one is owning up to it as far as I can find. All Rodenticide that was put out killed the squirrels and the squirrels were picked up by the eagles you have nesting there. When eagles eat poisoned rodents it kills them. We lost the two eaglets and the male eagle at the nest in your community. Please, please, there are traps that catch the mice so they can't come out, or havatrail traps that catch and release. This is the most horrible thing that these eagles died due to someone wanting to get rid of squirrels. My name is Louise Roy 727-480-5605 if you have any information. I am the Audubon Eagle Watch Coordinator for Pinellas and this is heartbreaking for me and the people who live in the condos near the eagles and our eagle watch committee.
A website which educates the public about the dangers of rat and rodent poisons can be found at: https://raptorsarethesolution.org/
